1983 OLDSMOBILE HURST (15TH ANNIV)
Following the success of Hurst components in Oldsmobile's 442 models Oldsmobile produced special-edition performance versions of the Cutlass Supreme, the Hurst/Olds. After the Cutlass line was split between the A-body Cutlass Ciera and the G-body Cutlass Supreme in 1982 GM again offered a limited-edition Hurst/Olds in 1983 which was the 15th anniversary of the first Hurst/Olds introduced in 1968. The Hurst Lightning Rod floor shifter (Triple Lightning Rods) was 1st introduced in the '83 H/O and enable the driver to manually shift 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. For its 15th Anniversary Edition, the '83 H/O came only in black with silver rocker panels. Chrome 15 wheels were fitted with Goodyear GT tires and a power bulge hood and rear spoiler gave the car a purposeful look. A modified version of Oldsmobile's 307 CID V8 (5.03 Liter) was installed along with a Hurst 4 speed tranny and a 12 bolt posi rear end with 3.73 gears. Dual exhausts with rumbling mufflers meant there was no mistaking the H/O for a garden variety Cutlass. A new style Hurst/Olds emblem was introduced and red and silver stripes separated the black and silver paint. Upgrades to the suspension included thicker anti-roll bars, stiffer springs and shocks, quicker ratio steering and shorter gearing. The small-block was tuned with a Delco electronic ignition, a Rochester carb and low restriction exhaust. Originally only 2500 units were scheduled to be produced but Olds had to up that number to 3001 because of high demand. With just 3,001 units produced the 1983 Hurst/Olds 15th Anniversary Edition has become scarce, especially in decent shape. This car is not just in decent shape; it is in amazing shape and has only 11,306 original miles. This is an affordable classic that is sure to appreciate significantly in the years to come.
